Mindflow
Adopting the name Mindflow for the Dementia Art Project, Paul and his
wife Lesley Stretton-Stephens aimed to demystify and grow the arts in the dementia community with the strong belief that creativity is very much alive and kicking in people living with dementia.
Paul and Lesley, who lives with mixed rare dementia, believe that art
can truly act as a vehicle for boosting self-esteem, confidence, communication, and emotional expression. Apart from that, it’s fun and provides a sense of purpose with tangible results.
This project incorporated a style of art called Fusion Hybrid Art, where, in this case, participants actively engaged with various patterned and
coloured fabrics. They selected fabrics and used them to create a composition. Paul photographed the compositions and created a bespoke digital palette for each one. Using the palettes, Paul painted the image digitally.
A BIG thank you goes out to The Ness Hub, a Specialist Dementia Hub in Exmouth that is part of The Ness Care Group. The Ness kindly sponsored the project by hosting the project and Phil Evens of Cooks Farm Picture Framing kindly provided the framed prints for the participants.
The projects commenced in January 2024 and Paul worked with 12 persons living with dementia. We give thanks to the participants and to their aides who have been invaluable in the project.
All artworks are available as prints, calendars, and cards. 50% of the
proceeds will donated to the National Brain Appeal who funds the Rare Dementia Support service.
